Day 4 - Leon to Villavante

Leon to Villavante

Distance: 17 miles / 29 kms

Goal for the Day

The physical challenge of a long day, both in hours and distance

Meaningful Moment

Crossing over from the industrial and urban Leon to the farmland, empty of people, but full of life none the less.

Random Thought of the Day

The path less traveled can be and may be more beautiful. It was today. Be ready to take the alternative path that others won't; taking a chance may not always work, but on balance, we come out ahead.

On the Road

After a wonderful time in Leon, we got on the road so to speak. It was a long time to get out of Leon and its environs. One nice memory is that Linda and I stopped in some town for a picnic lunch on a bench in a town park. It was a quiet and restful period before we started up again.

We also picked today to follow an alternative route which got us off of the main road and onto something more quiet. Altho it added about 2 kilometers, it was worth it. The pilgrims on the direct route put up with a lot of commercial traffic and certainly more pavement than us.

After that, the pictures pretty much tell the story of our day.

Hiking thru the Meseta presents its own set of challenges
It is beautiful in its own way but you have to accept the Meseta on it's own terms.
I think it was 90 degrees on this day. But at least we were off of the paved roads and on dirt, farm roads.
