Day 3 - Mansilla to Leon

Mansilla de Las Mulas to Leon

Distance: 10 miles / 17 kms

Goal for the Day

Once we made it to the city of Leon, we made our way to the Cathedral of Leon which was simply stunning. The cathedral was rebuilt in the 13th century after the Moors were driven from this region of Spain. The ceiling in combination with the stained glass, at heights of over 10 stories was just amazing to be inside and behold.

Meaningful Moment

Being in the cathedral with Linda.

Random Thought of the Day

I've been too long from the Camino. I felt it back in Rochester where the routine was overtaking my ability to see things from different perspectives and where I was adapting to a more univision way of seeing things.

On the Road

On the way to Leon,  Linda and I decided that we would take a taxi the last six kilometers. The guidebook told us that the area was heavily industrialized and not very scenic. We felt like we would rather spend our time seeing something of the city itself.

We also have ourselves a break from the hostel routine by taking a room at a more upscale hotel. It was a decision well worth it. We had additional personal space and a chance to stretch out.

We are headed out of town.

It's easier to smile in the morning when we are fresh.

Walking along the road is some of the harder hiking there is on the Camino.
