Day 1 - Sahagun to Burgo Ranero

Sahagun to Burgo Ranero

Distance: 11 miles / 18 kms

Goal for the Day

Get into the Camino mode with Linda at my side

Meaningful Moment

A few moments of reflection and contemplation in the vast expanse of the Meseta

Random Thought of the Day

The heat was a killer. 90+ temperatures but low humidity. Thanking the stars that Linda and I practiced on some humid days in Rochester to toughen up.

On the Road

The Ermita was a nice surprise as Linda and I made it way to Burgo Ranero. It was sitting on the side of the road, but instead of the normal vacated building, this place of reflection was open for pilgrims to stop and say a little prayer or just stop and meditate.
I also became reminded of the vastness and expanse of the Meseta. The only way that I can describe it is to imagine yourself walking through the entire state of Kansas from east to west. The fields of agriculture are endless, the sameness of view leaves one free for reflection. What was different this time is that I am here with Linda, but that Linda had been here for eight or nine days now.

Beautiful inside the Ermita.
