Day 16 A Lavacolla to Santiago de Compostela

A Lavacolla to Santiago de Compostela

Distance: 6 miles / 10 kms

Goal for the Day

The cathedral of Santiago at Plaza Obreiero.

Meaningful Moment

On the way into the Plaza Obreiera, I could not help but tear up at the emotion I felt, having worked so long towards this goal. I was so glad to have Linda at my side as she also reached her goal. It was so meaningful that I, after 4 hikes over 600 miles, and Linda, after 500 miles in one trip, could share that special moment with someone who understood the effort.

Random Thought of the Day

Sometimes it seems we put in a lot of work to achieve a rather insignificant goal and sometimes it seems like we didn't put in a whole lot of work to achieve a significant goal. I think the difference is in realizing when the effort is worth the reward and when the effort is not worth the reward.

On the Road

Up and at it early as we wanted to avoid the huge crowd of pilgrims streaming into Santiago. We'd heard about 2 hour waits at the Pilgrims office.

The hike itself was unmemorable. At one point we crossed a rickety bridge on entering the city.
We stopped for coffee and churros, soon after entering.

Linda and I hiked thru the city until we crossed over into the old section and that was when I realized how close to an end this adventure was.
